Work and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities

Introduction

Coastal Enterprises, operating from West Sussex County Council premises in Worthing and Rustington, provides a creative new approach to work-related social service.

It operates a family of business ventures designed to create work and training opportunities for people with a variety of special needs.

The concept is to provide high quality, cost-effective supported work and lifeskills training through business enterprises which can operate with enough commercial success to return a trading surplus.  The more successful the enterprises, the greater the opportunities for the learning-disabled service users.

Coastal Cookies was the first venture under this initiative and received initial funding from the Single Regeneration Budget. The success of this pilot led to the launch of additional ventures under the Coastal Enterprises banner, and the concept is being developed as an enlightened new way of operating self-subsidised social service day centre activities.

This website describes the main activities of Coastal Enterprises and the commercial services it offers.
